OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 26 JUNE 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Proverbs 20:12
“The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.”

Your physical senses are not accidents of evolution—they are creations of God. The same God who formed the physical eye and ear can open them to see and hear what is invisible to the natural person. Having physical eyes is one thing; having “seeing eyes” that perceive divine opportunities, hidden solutions, and kingdom possibilities is another. Both come from the Lord, and both can be requested from Him.

BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 4:1-7
This is the story of the widow of a son of the prophets. Her husband died, leaving behind massive debt. The creditor was coming to take her two sons as slaves. She had nothing in her house but a small pot of oil. Elisha instructed her to borrow empty vessels from her neighbours—many vessels, not just a few. Then she was to shut the door and pour her oil into all the vessels. She poured, and the oil flowed until every vessel was full. She sold the oil, paid the debt, and lived on the remainder. Daddy Adeboye highlights a crucial detail: the solution to her desperate situation was already in her house. She had the oil all along. What she lacked was not resources but revelation—eyes to see the potential in what she already possessed.

The Tragedy of Unseen Solutions
1. The Widow’s Desperation
“Today’s Bible reading tells us about a widow who was about to lose her sons to slavery because her late husband left behind a huge debt. She was in a desperate situation, and in her desperation, she ran to Prophet Elisha and shared her plight with him.”

Consider her condition:

The Widow’s Problem The Stakes
Massive debt she could not pay Creditor was coming
No income, no resources Her two sons would be taken as slaves
Husband (the provider) was dead She was alone, vulnerable, helpless
Humanly speaking, she had no options. She did not come to Elisha with a plan or a resource. She came with a problem.

2. The Hidden Solution
“After telling the prophet about her troubles, he asked her what she had in her house, and she replied, ‘Nothing, except a pot of oil.’ She thought that what she had was little, but she didn’t realise that it was all she needed to become financially free.”

What the Widow Said What Was Actually True
“Nothing” “A pot of oil”
“I have no resources” “I have the seed of my miracle”
“I am hopeless” “Your solution is already in your house”
“Sometimes, you don’t need more than what you already have in order to receive what God has in store for you.”

This is a revolutionary statement. The widow thought she needed a loan, a benefactor, a miracle from outside. But God’s miracle was already inside her house. She had the oil. She had been living with her miracle and did not know it.

“All that the widow in today’s Bible reading needed to have a financial breakthrough had been in her house all along, but she didn’t know it.”

What She Had What She Needed The Gap
A pot of oil A financial breakthrough Not more oil, but eyes to see the potential of the oil
“It took Elisha’s instructions on what to do with what she had to help her experience the potential of the ‘little’ that was in her possession.”

Elisha did not give her new resources. He gave her a revelation. He opened her eyes to see that the “little” she had was enough—if used according to divine instruction.

Having Eyes That See (Beyond Physical Sight)
1. Physical Eyes vs. Seeing Eyes
“In today’s memory verse, the Bible says that the ears that hear and the eyes that see were made by the Lord. This means that a person can be surrounded by prosperity; however, if God doesn’t enable that person to see the opportunities He has placed around him or her, such a person can die in poverty.”

See the surface of things See the potential beneath the surface
See lack See the seed of abundance
See obstacles See opportunities
See the problem See the solution hidden within the problem
See scarcity See abundance where others see famine
“Having eyes that see is more than just having physical eyes. When you have eyes that see, you will see opportunities where others see challenges and abundance where others see scarcity.”

The widow had physical eyes. She could see the pot of oil. But she did not have “seeing eyes” that recognised the oil as her answer. She saw a little oil. Elisha saw unlimited wealth waiting to be released.

2. Isaac: Seeing Opportunities in Famine
“When God opened Isaac’s eyes to see opportunities in the midst of famine, he became so wealthy that the Philistines began to envy him because he had become wealthier than them (Genesis 26:12-16).”

Consider Isaac’s situation:

The Circumstance The Natural Response

Limited resources Fear, hoarding, competition
But Isaac did not see famine. He saw.......
