Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Murder of Former Broadcaster in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of former broadcaster, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, at her residence in Owode-Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
Parading the suspects at the Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said the arrests followed intelligence gathering, technical tracking and forensic investigation.
It was disclosed that the principal suspect confessed the killing was intended to "teach her a lesson" over grievances relating to poor remuneration while he worked as her security guard.
The police received a report on June 21, 2026, around 4:00 p.m., after suspicious circumstances were observed at Oyesiku's residence. Officers found the front door partially damaged, while the security house was locked. Oyesiku was discovered lying in a pool of blood in her living room, and her security guard was found dead inside the security house.
Investigators also discovered that Oyesiku's Lexus RX 330 had been stolen. Through intelligence-led operations, the vehicle was recovered on June 22 in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
Although the ignition key and number plates had been removed, detectives found the registration plate hidden beneath a seat, confirming the vehicle belonged to the deceased.
A handwritten note allegedly left by the attackers was subjected to forensic analysis, generating leads that helped detectives identify the suspects. The principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta. Follow-up operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
According to the police, Philip confessed to planning the attack and recruiting the two others. He allegedly said his dissatisfaction with Oyesiku's salary and his repeated requests for financial assistance motivated the crime.
Police alleged the suspects first overpowered Adetayo and forced him to grant them access before attacking Oyesiku on June 20, 2026. They then fled with her vehicle.
Further searches based on the suspects' statements led to the recovery of a broken hammer, cutlass, plank, black pen and other exhibits linked to the investigation.
Ojajuni stressed that although the suspects had made confessional statements and substantial evidence had been recovered, they remain entitled to due process under the law.
He added that investigations are ongoing to strengthen the case and ensure diligent prosecution, reaffirming the command's commitment to ensuring everyone connected with the crime is brought to justice.
