Your Excellencies President Tinubu, leaders of opposition parties, and independent candidates, 240 million Nigerians write to you as concerned Nigerians who believe deeply in the future of our democracy. Our message is simple Nigeria needs more women meaningfully represented in politics and governance. This is not because women are perfect or free from corruption—corruption is a human problem, not a gendered one—but because a balanced democracy requires the voices, experiences, and leadership of Nigerian women at every level of decision‑making.

Today, 240 million Nigerians fund the salaries of elected officials. That responsibility does not extend to governors’ spouses. Yet across the 36 states and 774 local government areas, we continue to see governors’ wives using public resources for luxury cars, convoys, and other expenses that do not serve the Nigerian people. These practices undermine public trust and divert funds that should be building hospitals, schools, housing, and essential services.

We therefore demand on the courts, the EFCC, and all relevant oversight institutions to investigate any misuse of public funds by governors’ spouses. Public office is a public trust, and accountability must apply to everyone who benefits from taxpayer resources.

We also demand on all political parties—ruling, opposition, and independent—to commit to increasing women’s participation in governance. Nigeria cannot progress while half of its population remains underrepresented in leadership.

We demand you to act with transparency, fairness, and urgency. The future of our democracy depends on it.
