Greed is an excessive, selfish desire for more wealth, power, status, or pleasure than one needs, where “having more” becomes more important than “doing right.” It affects societal morals by eroding empathy and fairness: people start cutting corners, exploiting others, and justifying corruption because personal gain outweighs honesty or compassion. When greed becomes normalized, trust breaks down in families, markets, and government, leaders serve themselves instead of the public, and communities begin to value wealth over character.
