The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded major anti-smuggling breakthroughs in Ogun and Cross River states, intercepting prohibited goods worth over ₦4.8 billion as part of efforts to protect local industries, boost government revenue and support economic growth. In Ogun, Customs confiscated 146 smuggled consignments valued at ₦4.62 billion, including foreign rice, fuel, tyres, footwear and frozen products, while also handing over large quantities of cannabis and tramadol to the NDLEA. The command generated ₦259.7 million in revenue and reported a 238% increase compared to the same period last year. In Cross River, Customs seized prohibited imports worth ₦273.7 million, including nearly 2,000 kegs of foreign vegetable oil, used tyres and second-hand clothing. Officials say the operations are aimed at curbing unfair competition, protecting Nigerian manufacturers and safeguarding jobs.
