President Bola Tinubu has called on African nations to break away from the cycle of exporting raw materials and importing finished products, urging the continent to embrace local processing, value addition and industrialisation. Speaking at the 2026 African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) in Abuja, Tinubu said Africa’s vast mineral wealth must be transformed into real economic power through manufacturing and stronger value chains. Represented by Solid Minerals Minister Dele Alake, the President stressed that Africa’s critical minerals are central to the global energy transition, but lasting prosperity will come only from creating value locally. He highlighted Nigeria’s mining reforms, including the revocation of over 10,000 dormant licences and billions of dollars in new mineral processing investments. With fresh discoveries of lithium, nickel, copper and other strategic minerals, Nigeria is positioning itself as a key player in Africa’s industrial future.
