Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has applauded President Bola Tinubu following the Senate’s passage of the constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish State Police, describing the development as an “epochal” moment in Nigeria’s democratic evolution. Sanwo-Olu said the approval vindicates Tinubu’s decades-long advocacy for true federalism, tracing the president’s push for decentralised policing back to his tenure as Lagos governor between 1999 and 2007. According to him, State Police will strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, insecurity and violent crime while deepening governance reforms. He also commended the Senate for what he called a historic decision and urged state assemblies across the country to swiftly support the bill.
