State Police is a welcome development, but who will control MOPOL? Will MOPOL continue to operate roadblocks within the states, or will State Police take over all security responsibilities, including checkpoints and road patrols?

My biggest concern is the possibility of ethnic bias and discrimination. Will an Igbo person living in Lagos or Kano receive fair treatment if accused by a Yoruba or Hausa person? If such a person is arrested and the police station is staffed mainly by officers from the dominant ethnic group, will they listen fairly to both sides of the story? Will due process be followed, or could cases be rushed through the system?

These are important questions that must be addressed before State Police is fully implemented. Strong safeguards, oversight, and accountability mechanisms are necessary to ensure that State Police serves all residents equally, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.

Without proper checks and balances, there is a risk that the system could be abused for political, ethnic, or personal reasons. The rights of every Nigerian must be protected wherever they live in the country.
