CHILDREN IN THE FOREST, EMPTY CLASSROOMS: WHOSE FAULT?
Look at the empty classroom.
Look at the deserted desks.
Then ask yourself: Where are the children?
In a normal society, children should be in classrooms learning and preparing for the future. But in Nigeria today, some children are in forests under the custody of kidnappers and bandits while their classrooms remain empty.
Whenever such tragedies occur, many Nigerians immediately blame President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and demand his resignation. But is the problem really that simple?
What about the governors who receive billions of naira in security votes? What about the state governments responsible for the safety of schools within their territories?
The truth is that insecurity did not begin today. It grew over many years through poor decisions, neglect, and leadership failures at different levels.
This is not to excuse anyone. The President has a duty to secure lives and property. So do governors and other public officials entrusted with the people's safety.
But while politicians argue, children suffer.
Children who should be in classrooms are sleeping in forests.
Children who should be reading books are living through fear and uncertainty.
Every empty seat in a classroom tells a painful story.
The empty classroom in this picture is a reminder that our children belong in schools, not in kidnappers' camps.
Awake, Nigerians! Awake!! Awake!!!
The classrooms are empty. The forests are crowded. That should worry every one of us.
