[READ: ACTING NATIONAL POLICE COMMISSIONER, LT GEN PULENG DIMPANE, ON OPERATIONAL PREPAREDNESS FOR 30 JUNE]
On expectations for the 30 June demonstrations:
On the carrying of weapons during marches - The issue of weapons during public gatherings remains a matter of serious concern.
The law is very clear. No person may carry dangerous weapons or firearms at a gathering where such conduct is prohibited by law or where it is intended to intimidate or threaten others.
Our members have been instructed to enforce the law without fear or favour. Where there are violations of the law, the necessary action will be taken.
We also call on organisers of marches to play their part by discouraging participants from carrying weapons or engaging in conduct that could provoke violence or place others at risk.
Our objective is to ensure that every gathering remains peaceful and that everyone returns home safely.
