Luis Enrique on the greatest player between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after Messi’s record-breaking goal against Austria:

“First of all, congratulations to Messi. To score a goal like that and break another World Cup record is extraordinary.

But when people ask me about the greatest player of all time, my answer remains Cristiano Ronaldo.

For me, greatness is not only about talent. It is about longevity, adaptation, consistency and the ability to succeed in completely different environments.

Cristiano has done it in England, Spain, Italy and for Portugal. He has won everywhere, scored everywhere and broken records everywhere.

What impresses me most is his mentality. Year after year, regardless of age, pressure or expectations, he continues to push himself beyond limits that most players cannot imagine.

Messi’s achievements deserve enormous respect, but if I have to choose one player as the greatest, I choose Cristiano Ronaldo.
