The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should ensure that all credible allegations of vote buying during the recently concluded Ekiti State election are thoroughly investigated and, where sufficient evidence exists, prosecuted in accordance with the law. Vote buying poses a serious threat to the integrity of Nigeria's democratic process, undermines public confidence in elections, and weakens the principle that leaders should emerge through the free and fair choice of the electorate.
Addressing electoral malpractice transparently and impartially is essential to strengthening Nigeria's democracy and reinforcing the country's reputation as a nation committed to the rule of law and credible elections.
