Sunday Igboho's decision to stand up for the protection of his people should be understood within the context of the serious security challenges that affected parts of southwestern Nigeria. Many believe that when the government appears unable to adequately protect lives and property, community leaders naturally feel compelled to advocate for the safety of their people. However, while citizens have the right to demand protection and speak out against insecurity, all actions taken in pursuit of security should remain within the framework of the law and respect for human rights. Ultimately, the primary responsibility for protecting every Nigerian rests with the government.
