Omar Khayyam (1048–1131 CE) was a renowned Persian mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, and poet whose contributions significantly advanced medieval science and mathematics.
He is best known for his pioneering work on cubic equations, which he systematically classified and solved using geometric methods involving conic sections, centuries before the development of modern algebraic techniques.
Khayyam also played a leading role in reforming the Persian calendar, producing one of the most accurate solar calendars of the premodern world.
Beyond mathematics, his philosophical writings and the celebrated Rubáiyát poetry collection have secured his place as one of history’s most influential intellectuals, embodying the harmonious union of scientific inquiry, reason, and artistic expression.
