Germany secured their #FIFAWC2026 Round of 32 spot with two strong victories. This calls for a sweet celebration with: Berliner Krapfen!.
Berliner Krapfen or Pfannkuchen are a traditional German pastry similar to a jelly doughnut, made from sweet yeast dough, fried in hot oil, and filled with jam or cream. They have no central hole and are typically dusted with powdered sugar.
While these airy treats can be enjoyed year-round, they hold special cultural significance in Central Europe. They are a quintessential treat during Carnival (Karneval / Fasching) and are also a long-standing tradition to eat on New Year's Eve (Silvester). In some regions, a playful New Year's prank involves filling a random Berliner with mustard instead of jam.
