Afam Ogene has fired back at former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, saying his claims about Peter Obi's security record were false and insisting that Peter Obi was "several light years ahead" of him.
Responding to Oshiomhole's comments, Ogene said:
"Peter Obi was several light years ahead of Adams Oshiomhole. First, he got his facts all mixed up."
He said Oshiomhole was wrong to claim that the Bakassi Boys were operating under Peter Obi.
"That was capital false. The Bakassi Boys came from Abia State under former Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju. After Mbadinuju's tenure, there was Governor Chris Ngige before Peter Obi. By the time Peter Obi became governor, the Bakassi Boys issue was already off the slate."
Ogene also dismissed Oshiomhole's claim that the demolition of houses linked to kidnapping started under former Governor Willie Obiano.
"False. It was started by Mr. Peter Obi."
He further argued that Peter Obi pioneered community policing in Nigeria long before it became a national conversation.
"In all the 177 communities in Anambra State, Peter Obi provided security vehicles, equipped vigilantes with weapons, registered them with the police and government, paid them, and drove criminals away. Even the dreaded Evans had to run away from Anambra to Lagos because of these actions."
According to him, Peter Obi's eight years in office brought peace to Anambra.
"Before Peter Obi, Anambra was notorious politically. But during his eight-year reign, you can hardly count any politically associated death. He made Anambra home for all through civility."
Speaking on allegations surrounding Senate proceedings, Ogene dismissed claims of bribery or forged signatures.
"When people cry foul over nothing, Senator Adams Oshiomhole eats his words like candies. He makes allegations today, and the next day he is made to eat his words."
Taking another swipe at Oshiomhole, Ogene said:
"In modern times, I don't know how many people bear the name Adam. When you call Adam, the mind goes back to the Garden of Eden. Maybe he's still living in that garden."
He recalled that after Oshiomhole accused members of the 9th National Assembly of looting their offices, he later apologized on the floor of the Senate.
Ogene also referred to Oshiomhole's comments on the suspension of Senator Natasha, saying even the senator he mentioned publicly later denied his claims.
"I don't know whether, because of his trade union background, once you put a microphone before him, he goes off target."
He ended with a scathing attack on Oshiomhole.
"All Nigerians know that Adams Oshiomhole lacks emotional intelligence. This is a man who, as governor, told a widow who knelt before him begging for the release of her seized goods, 'Go and die.'"
