I remember my first job after NYSC. During the interview, I was asked to rate my proficiency in Excel on a scale of 1 to 10. Confidently, I said 8.
The HR interviewer looked at me and said, "What?"
I immediately adjusted my rating to 6. They smiled and said, "Okay. Do this calculation in Excel."
They handed me a spreadsheet to work on. Based on the saying, "Edo no dey carry last," I combined my reasoning skills with the little Excel knowledge I had to complete the task. 😂
I got the job. Interestingly, that role later took me outside Nigeria for my first-ever international training.
That interview became a turning point for me. Afterward, I invested heavily in learning Excel. Today, I have advanced knowledge of it and have used it to manage the operations of several businesses—and I'm still using it professionally.

The lesson? Sometimes an opportunity comes before you're fully ready. If you're willing to learn quickly and put in the work, today's weakness can become tomorrow's greatest strength.
