🚨 Gumi Warns: “We Don’t Want To Push Them Into Terror Beyond What They Are Doing Now Because It Can Get Worse” 😱
Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has again questioned the Federal Government's stance on ending negotiations with armed groups in the North-West and labeling them as terrorists.
According to Gumi:
🗣️ “We don’t want to push them into terror beyond what they are doing now because it can get worse.”
He argued that some of the groups have shown a willingness to negotiate and warned against completely shutting down dialogue.
🗣️ “They have shown us their willingness to negotiate, so people that are ready to negotiate, why are you rushing to declare them bandits so that you can use whatever weapons you bought?”
Gumi further lamented that the terrorist designation has cut off what he described as one of the last remaining channels of engagement between clerics and armed groups operating in the forests of the North-West.
🗣️ “Before they used to catch Boko Haram and present them to the authorities in Zamfara, but now they are all terrorists.”
The comments come amid renewed debates over Nigeria's security strategy, with many Nigerians divided between pursuing military action and exploring dialogue as a pathway to peace.
🤔 Do you agree with Sheikh Gumi that negotiation should remain an option, or should the government maintain a strict no-negotiation policy with groups declared terrorists?
