The question of integrity in politics is a real one, especially in Nigeria.

And sometimes I find myself thinking beyond the headlines and the disappointments…

Who are these politicians?
Were they not once children in someone’s home?
Did they not sit at a family table?
Did no one teach them honesty, responsibility, compassion, or accountability?

Because the truth is, leadership does not begin in government.
It begins in homes.
In values.
In character.
In what we celebrate, excuse, correct, and reward while our children are still watching.

Maybe one of the hardest questions we need to ask ourselves is this:

What kind of people are we raising?

Are we raising children who understand service, or only success?
Children who value truth, or just power?
Children who understand that influence is a responsibility, not an opportunity to exploit others?

A nation’s future is not only shaped at the ballot box.
It is shaped in living rooms, around dining tables, in schools, in communities, and in the everyday decisions families make about values and character.

Nigeria does not just need better politicians.
We need better value systems.
We need homes, schools, communities, and faith spaces that intentionally raise children with integrity, empathy, discipline, and a sense of stewardship.

Because today’s child may become tomorrow’s leader.

And if we keep raising brilliance without character, power without compassion, and ambition without integrity, we will keep recycling the same problems in different faces.

Maybe the work of nation-building starts closer to home than we think.
