OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 22 JUNE 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: John 11:25
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

This verse is one of the most profound declarations of Jesus’ divine identity. Daddy Adeboye anchors today’s devotional on this text because it reveals that Jesus is not merely someone who performs resurrections—He is the Resurrection itself. He is not just a source of life—He is the Life. When Jesus stood before the tomb of Lazarus, He did not pray to the Father to resurrect him. He spoke as the Resurrection: “Lazarus, come forth.” This means that no situation is too dead, too hopeless, or too far gone for Jesus. He does not need favorable conditions, perfect timing, or human cooperation. He is the Resurrection. And He is the Life.

BIBLE READING: John 2:1-11 (The Wedding at Cana)
This passage records Jesus’ first miracle: turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. The hosts ran out of wine—a social disaster of immense proportions. Jesus’ mother informed Him. He responded, “Mine hour is not yet come.” Despite this, He instructed the servants to fill six stone waterpots with water and draw some out for the governor. The water had become wine—and not just any wine, but the finest wine of the feast. Daddy Adeboye uses this miracle to show that Jesus can reach into the future and change “not yet” into “now.” His time had not come for public manifestation, yet He brought the future into the present.

The God Who Brings the Future into the Present
1. The Wedding at Cana: “My Time Has Not Yet Come”
“In today’s Bible reading, Jesus, His mother, and His disciples attended a wedding. In the course of the celebration, His mother learnt that the hosts had run out of wine and she informed Jesus who responded by saying, ‘My time has not yet come.’”

This is a fascinating detail. Jesus Himself acknowledged that His “time” (the appointed hour for His public miracles and eventual glorification) had not yet arrived. Humanly speaking, the miracle should not have happened yet.

This is the first application: God is not bound by your calendar. What seems overdue, delayed, or impossible by human timing can become now when the Lord of time intervenes.

2. Lazarus: Four Days Dead, Already Stinking
Daddy Adeboye moves to an even more dramatic example:

*”In John 11:1-17, Lazarus died and had been buried for four days before Jesus arrived on the scene. Naturally, his case was a hopeless one because a four-day-old corpse would have started decomposing already.”*

Consider the progression of hopelessness:

“If Jesus had arrived on the day Lazarus died, Martha might have had a glimmer of hope that Jesus could raise her brother from the dead. However, he had been dead for four days, and she said, ‘Lord, by this time he stinketh…’ (John 11:39).”

Martha did not lack faith entirely—she believed Jesus could have prevented Lazarus’s death. But raising a four-day-old, decomposing corpse? That seemed impossible even to her.

Martha’s Faith The Limit of Her Faith
“If You had been here, my brother would not have died” She believed Jesus could heal the sick
“Even now, whatever You ask of God, God will give You” She did not believe Jesus could raise the dead directly
“I know he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day” She believed in a future resurrection, not an immediate one
“Even though Jesus had not yet died and resurrected, He reached into the future to become the Resurrection and the Life for Lazarus’ sake (John 11:25). He took on an identity that was reserved for after His death and resurrection and called Lazarus out of the grave.”
