NNEKA DIARY XXIV

It had been exactly one year since Angela passed.

I had marked the date on my calendar — not to mourn, but to know when Kunle's waiting would end. I didn't expect anything. I told myself not to.

But on that day, he called and asked me to meet him at our guest house. Our special place.

When I arrived, the terrace was decorated with fairy lights. Nothing flashy. Just thoughtful. He was wearing a blue agbada, looking more nervous than I'd ever seen him.

"Nneka Juliet Ezihe," he said — my full name on his lips made my heart stop. "I know you knew this day would come."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.

"I've been carrying this ring for six months. Waiting for the right time. Today marks one year since Angela left. I kept my promise to wait — not because I had to, but because I needed to honor her and honor you."

He opened the box. A simple gold band with a small diamond.

"I'm not running, Nneka. I'm walking — slowly, carefully, toward you. I know our story is not easy. I know people will talk. I know Mary will need time. But I also know you are the woman God made for me."

He got down on one knee.

"Marry me."

I stared at him. Tears already falling.

"Are you asking? Requesting? Or demanding?"

He laughed. "Asking. Desperately."

"Yes," I said. "Yes, Kunle. Yes."

He slid the ring onto my finger. Perfect fit. Of course it was.

He stood up and pulled me close. "I've been carrying this ring for six months. Waiting for the right time."

"You waited," I said. "You kept your word."

"I always will." He said.

To be continued ….
