INEC has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC the winner of the Ekiti 2026 Governorship election.

APC: 319,224 votes
PDP: 40,543 votes
ADC: 12,872 votes
A landslide victory. No contest. No suspense. Just numbers that tell a story.
319,224 votes against 40,543. That is almost 8 times more than the closest rival. In a democracy, that is not just a win. That is a mandate. That is the people speaking loudly and clearly.
But here is the question nobody is asking.
How does a sitting governor go from winning by a slim margin in 2022 to crushing the opposition with almost 280,000 votes difference in 2026? What changed in four years? Was it performance? Was it grassroots mobilisation? Was it the people genuinely satisfied? Or is there something else beneath the surface?
The PDP scored only 40,543 votes. That is shockingly low. For a major opposition party in a state like Ekiti, those numbers raise eyebrows. Did the party collapse? Did the people reject them completely? Or was there voter apathy?
The ADC scored 12,872 votes. Barely a footnote.
Now let me ask you.
Do these numbers reflect the true will of Ekiti people?
Is Governor Oyebanji really that popular or did something else happen?
What does this result say about democracy in Nigeria?
And the biggest question. If the opposition is this weak, who holds the government accountable?
These are not accusations. These are questions. Honest, uncomfortable, and necessary.
Congratulations to Governor Biodun Oyebanji. The people have spoken. But we must never stop asking the hard questions. That is the price of democracy.
