ABUJA — The ITMedia Operations Support for ObiKwankwaso has strongly condemned statements made by Professor Yusuf regarding the electability of Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, in Northern Nigeria, labeling the claims as completely false, outdated, and discriminatory.
In a widely circulated video, Professor Yusuf alleged that Obi lacks the political appeal and structural reach to secure votes in the North ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Responding to the assertions, ITMedia Operations Support dismissed the professor’s analysis as an intentional attempt to promote regional bias and undermine the rapidly growing national consensus behind the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.
"To claim that Peter Obi is not electable in the North is not only factually incorrect, but it also insults the intelligence of millions of Northern voters who are desperately seeking a departure from poor governance, poverty, and insecurity," the statement read. "Obi is a national candidate, not a regional one."
The support group emphasized that political dynamics in the North have fundamentally shifted, driven by a youthful demographic that prioritizes competence over ethnic or religious sentiment. They noted that during the previous electoral cycle, Obi secured significant support across several northern states, a base that has expanded following his official alignment with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso under the NDC banner.
The group further argued that framing certain candidates as "unelectable" based purely on geographic or ethnic background is a discriminatory tactic designed to fracture the country's unity. They stressed that the combination of Obi’s economic track record and Kwankwaso’s deep-rooted structural influence in the North creates a formidable, cross-regional alliance capable of winning the presidency.
ITMedia Operations Support urged the public to disregard divisive rhetoric and focus on the issue-based campaign being championed by the NDC, which promises comprehensive security reforms, agricultural revitalization, and massive investments in infrastructure across all geopolitical zones.
