With a strong 6-0 result, Canada secured their first-ever men's World Cup victory. And we're sure many are still celebrating with a tasty, beloved dessert: Butter tart!.

The butter tart is an iconic, highly cherished small pastry highly regarded in Canadian cuisine. It consists of a flaky, buttery pastry shell filled with a rich, gooey mixture of butter, sugar (typically brown sugar or maple syrup), and egg. Walk into just about any bakery, grocery store, or farmstand in Canada, and you’ll see butter tarts sitting in the pastry case.

Surprisingly, no one really knows for sure when or how the butter tart came to be. “The very first butter tart recipe may never be found,” wrote journalist Sara Bonisteel, “because until recently cookbooks were not seen as items worth preserving.”

And there's an important lesson there: Always write your recipes down and write your name on them!. The future generations will thank you.
