The irony is sickening. "Repentant" bandits. That's what they call them.
Fresh attacks by suspected “repentant” bandits in Kaduna State have left a commercial driver dead and nine other persons abducted in separate incidents along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road and within Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Let that sink in. Repentant. But they're still killing.
The slain driver has been identified as Mallam Ibrahim Adamu. He was reportedly the grandson of a District Head in the Birnin Gwari Emirate. A relative confirmed the development, saying Ibrahim was attacked at Kwanan Giginya along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway. According to family sources, armed men opened fire on his commercial vehicle, killing him instantly before abducting about five passengers and fleeing into the bush. A grandson of a traditional ruler. Gunned down like he was nothing.
And it didn't stop there.
In a separate attack, four farmers working on their farmlands in the Kurgi area of Birnin Gwari were abducted by gunmen. The victims were said to have been carrying out routine farming activities when the attackers stormed the area and whisked them away to an unknown destination. Farmers. Feeding the nation. Now feeding the bush with their tears.
These latest incidents have renewed concerns over the worsening security situation along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari axis, despite repeated claims of peace agreements and reconciliation efforts involving armed groups operating in the region. Peace agreements? With who? The same people holding AK-47s?
Residents say the corridor remains highly dangerous, with frequent cases of killings, kidnappings, and armed robbery continuing to threaten lives and livelihoods. They lamented that the persistent violence has disrupted farming, commercial activities, and movement within rural communities. Community members also alleged that bandits regularly seize motorcycles, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables from victims, in addition to carrying out abductions and killings that often go unreported.
Unreported. Meaning we don't even know the full scale of this madness.
The residents called on security agencies to intensify patrols along the highway and strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities to curb the recurring attacks and restore confidence among residents.
My question is simple: How many more Ibrahim Adamus have to die before "repentant" stops being a punchline and starts meaning something real?
This is Lekee. Unfiltered. And I'm not shutting up until this gets the attention it deserves.
