Imagine standing on the skid of a hovering Mi-17 helicopter, the downwash of the giant rotors whipping dust and leaves into your face, staring down into a dark forest clearing 40 feet below. Gripping a thick nylon rope is a young Sergeant from the Airborne wing. He is the "stick lead" the first man who will slide down that rope into the unknown.
He said: "When you kick that rope out of the open door, your heart hits your throat. But the moment your boots touch the grass, training takes over completely. You unhook, raise your weapon, and secure the perimeter for the men dropping behind you. There is no feeling on earth like knowing you are the vanguard of the state falling from the sky." Respect the airborne warriors pushing the limits today!
