ROMANCE IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYDAY STRUGGLES
I keep thinking about love, but not the kind shown in movies where everything is soft music and perfect timing. I mean the kind of love that survives real life—the kind that still chooses to stay even when the light bill is due, the gas is finished, and both of us are pretending not to notice that we are tired.
Romance in everyday life is not always roses. Sometimes it is sending a “have you eaten?” message while calculating transport fare in your head. Sometimes it is sharing the last piece of food and laughing like it is generosity, when in truth it is survival. Sometimes it is holding hands not in a beautiful garden, but in a crowded bus where life has no personal space or privacy.
Love in reality can look a bit pathetic in a sweet way. Two people trying to build dreams while managing pressure, responsibilities, and expectations that never seem to end. One is thinking about the future, the other is thinking about today’s problem, yet somehow both are still trying to stay on the same page.
There are days when romance feels like promises whispered in between stress. “We will be fine” becomes a shared prayer, not a guaranteed outcome. And yet, even in the chaos, there is something beautiful about choosing someone repeatedly in the middle of uncertainty.
Everyday life tests love in ways poetry rarely mentions. Bills arrive like uninvited guests. Plans get delayed. Energy runs out before the day ends. Yet in all of it, love quietly survives in small gestures—checking on each other, sharing burdens, and pretending that everything is okay when what we really mean is “we are trying.”
Maybe true romance is not about escaping life’s challenges, but about holding someone’s hand while walking through them. Not perfect, not polished, sometimes even a little pathetic—but real enough to matter.
