Saturday’s election in Ekiti state is one of the off cycle governorship polls before the general election. It is a dress rehearsal for major political parties to test their popularity. Eleven other candidates are challenging Biodun Oyebanji, the incumbent governor and candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), for the number one seat in the state.

Oyebanji, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Oyebanji Olajuyin of the Labour Party are major challengers for the governorship race.
