‘GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH!’ — DELE MOMODU EXPLODES ON KENNETH OKONKWO, CLAIMS PETER OBI WAS RELIEVED TO SEE HIM GO

A fresh political war has erupted within Nigeria’s opposition ranks as veteran journalist, politician and Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, launched a blistering attack on former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, describing him as a “political liability” whose exit from Peter Obi’s camp was welcomed rather than mourned.

In what is already generating heated reactions across political circles, Momodu claimed that he had repeatedly warned his principal about Okonkwo’s political value, insisting that the former Nollywood star brought more problems than solutions to the table.

“I told my principal that Kenneth was a political liability,” Momodu declared. “From my observations, even Obi himself appeared relieved when Kenneth left his camp because he saw him as more of a burden than an asset.”

The explosive remarks come amid growing controversy surrounding Okonkwo’s recent criticism of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the reported choice of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as his vice-presidential running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

Okonkwo had argued that the selection of another South-South politician effectively sidelined the South-East region and made it impossible for him to support such a ticket. His comments immediately sparked debate within opposition circles already struggling with internal disagreements and shifting political loyalties.

But Momodu was clearly unimpressed.

According to the media mogul, many politicians were dazzled by Okonkwo’s celebrity status and visibility as one of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces, mistaking fame for genuine political influence.

He argued that the actor’s public image created an illusion of political relevance that did not translate into tangible electoral value.
