Canada's star player Ismaël Koné, who suffered a devastating leg break during his side's historic 6-0 World Cup win over Qatar, was visited at his bed side by fellow national team-mate Moise Bombito, who shared a selfie of the moment. Koné can be seen smiling, reassuring fans through his pain, just as he did in the pitch.

Koné gave the crowd a thumbs up and a pat on his chest while being stretched off. Moise Bombito made sure the crowd cheered ever louder. “Ismaël Koné” chants were heard in Vancouver.

After he was taken out, Nathan Saliba scored a fourth goal for Canada with a fine free-kick and celebrated it by showing Koné's shirt to the crowd.

Canada’s head coach Jesse Marsch said that Qatar’s Assim Madibo came into Canada’s dressing room to apologize to Ismael Koné and the team for the leg injury he caused.

"He's someone that we love a lot" said Jonathan David about Koné.

Ismaël Koné was the chosen "Man of the Match" of Canada's #FIFAWC2026 opening game against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sadly, his World Cup dream is over for now.
