OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 19 JUNE 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Psalm 147:1
“Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.”

This verse is a triple declaration of the nature of praise. Daddy Adeboye anchors today’s devotional on this text because it reveals that praise is not merely a command or a duty—it is good, pleasant, and comely (becoming, appropriate, beautiful). Praise is good for you (it lifts your spirit). Praise is pleasant to God (He delights in it). Praise is comely for believers (it fits us; it is our natural posture). The question is not whether you have reasons to praise—you are alive, and that is reason enough. The question is whether you will use the voice God gave you for its intended purpose.

BIBLE READING: Isaiah 38:18-20
“For the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.”

These are the words of King Hezekiah after God healed him from a terminal illness. Daddy Adeboye draws from this passage a profound truth: the dead do not praise God. Only the living can lift their voices in worship. Therefore, as long as you have breath, you have a responsibility and a privilege to praise. Hezekiah understood that his healing was not just for his own comfort—it was so that he could continue to declare God’s praise and pass the knowledge of God to the next generation.

Daddy Adeboye’s Testimony: The Daughter Who Could Not Speak
1. The Diagnosis and Surgery
Daddy Adeboye shares a deeply personal and moving testimony:

“Years ago, one of my daughters was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx, and the doctors told her that the only solution was to surgically remove her larynx (which is also known as the voice box).”

This was not a minor illness. The larynx is essential for speaking, singing, and expressing praise. The surgery would rob her of her voice entirely.

“After the surgery, my wife and I visited her to pray and assure her that with God, all things are possible.”

Even after the surgery—even after the voice box was gone—they prayed in faith. They did not accept the doctors’ verdict as final. They believed that the God who created the voice box could restore it.

2. The Silent Period
“Owing to the fact that her voice box had been removed, she couldn’t speak, and the only way she could communicate was by texting.”

Imagine the silence. A daughter who cannot say “Daddy.” A woman who cannot sing, cannot pray aloud, cannot praise. The very instrument God gave her for worship had been silenced.

3. The Miracle
“One day, I returned home from a trip, and as I got out of my car, I saw somebody rolling on the ground. It turned out to be my daughter, whose larynx had been removed and when she saw me, she said, ‘It’s me, Daddy; I can speak again.’”

This is breathtaking. The daughter who could not speak was now rolling on the ground—not in pain, but in overwhelming joy. And she spoke: “It’s me, Daddy; I can speak again.”

“I was genuinely grateful to God for restoring her voice and allowing her to sing praises to Him again.”

The lesson is clear: God values praise so much that He will restore the instruments needed to offer it.

The Purpose of Your Voice: Praise
1. You Were Given a Voice for Worship
“Beloved, God gave you a voice so you could use it to praise Him. As long as you are alive, you should use your voice to praise Him continually.”

Praying Petition and intercession
Praising The highest use—ascribing worth to God
Your voice is not primarily for gossip, complaint, flattery, or empty conversation. Your voice is a gift from God to be returned to Him in praise. Every time you use your voice to praise God, you are fulfilling your design.

“God deserves all your praise, and it is one sure way to get answers to your prayers.”

This is not manipulation—praise to get answers. It is alignment. When you praise, you enter God’s presence (Psalm 100:4). In His presence, problems shrink, faith rises, and answers manifest.

2. Praise Is Not Optional; It Is Continual
“As long as you are alive, you should use your voice to praise Him continually.”

How Often? Scriptural Mandate
Continually “I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth” (Psalm 34:1)
