Igbo leader and founder of the Igbo Agenda, Chief Chekwas Okorie, has called on the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to give the agency’s management time and space to execute its mandate instead of making what he described as premature and unfounded allegations. Responding to claims by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu that the commission engaged in wasteful spending, Okorie said his findings showed the Abuja office in question was a fully furnished office complex, not a single-room facility as alleged. He also defended the use of consultants for critical studies and planning, stressing that such groundwork is essential for attracting investments and driving regional development. Warning against turning oversight into an “inquisition,” Okorie urged lawmakers to support the commission’s efforts to address longstanding infrastructure challenges in the Southeast.
