The Federal Government says it is strategically developing Nigeria’s Halal ecosystem as part of efforts to diversify the economy, empower MSMEs, and tap into the rapidly expanding global Halal market projected to reach nearly $7 trillion. Speaking at the Islamic Development Bank Annual Meeting in Azerbaijan, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, said Nigeria is already the world’s seventh-largest Halal consumer market and Africa’s second-largest. He noted that beyond religion, the Halal economy spans food, livestock, finance, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and ethical consumer products. The government plans to strengthen certification, infrastructure, livestock exports, and economic inclusion while leveraging Nigeria’s vast livestock resources and growing non-interest finance sector.
