Nigerian House Agents Now Demand A Staggering 20% Commission On Rental Properties

Is it not deeply troubling that many house agents in Nigeria now demand commissions as high as 20% on properties they do not own?

For an apartment costing ₦4 million, a prospective tenant is expected to pay an additional ₦800,000 to an agent—completely separate from the so-called "inspection fee" and other charges that often accompany the process.

At a time when millions of Nigerians are already struggling with rising living costs, these excessive and largely unregulated charges are making decent housing increasingly unattainable for ordinary citizens. Shelter is a basic human need, not a luxury reserved for the privileged.

This growing exploitation within the housing sector deserves urgent attention. The government and relevant regulatory bodies must intervene to establish fair, transparent, and enforceable standards for agency fees in order to protect Nigerians from financial exploitation.

LEONARD-G: They have allowed greediness to marry their souls, no conscience, and even with that, you will still be the one to pay their transportation to inspect the property and still pay for registration and inspection fee .
