Fighting insecurity in Nigeria is becoming increasingly difficult because the federal government has failed to lay the foundation for a more secure nation.

Combating insecurity is not just about buying weapons and ammunition. It is about creating the systems and infrastructure that enable security agencies to work effectively.

For example, the federal government introduced the National Identity Scheme, yet millions of Nigerians still do not possess a national identity card. Basic necessities such as properly named streets and numbered house addresses are absent in many parts of the country. There is still no comprehensive national database through which every Nigerian or legal resident can be identified at the click of a button.

If President Bola Ahmed Tinubu truly wants to defeat insecurity, he must put aside ego and seek assistance from experts, security professionals, and nations that have successfully tackled similar challenges. A secure Nigeria cannot be built on rhetoric alone; it requires strong institutions, accurate data, effective identification systems, and the political will to implement them.
