Members of the Renewed Hope Presidential Media Team, led by the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare , and the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga , on Wednesday, 17th June 2026, undertook an extensive inspection of strategic Federal and State Government projects across Abia State, emerging with glowing assessments of the pace and quality of development under Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
Mr. Dare described the ongoing transformation across the State as deliberate, impactful and capable of reversing years of infrastructural decline, citing investments in road construction, energy infrastructure and other critical sectors as evidence of purposeful governance. He particularly praised the collaborative approach between the Federal and Abia State Governments, pointing to the Abia Airport project as a practical example of productive intergovernmental partnership.
Providing technical briefings at various project locations, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu , and the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, highlighted the significance of the 67-kilometre UmuahiaโUzuakoliโAkaraโAbiribaโOhafia Highway, now known as Joe Irukwu Way, noting that the once impassable corridor was reconstructed entirely with State resources and now serves more than twenty agrarian and mineral-producing communities. They explained that the road, fitted with end-to-end solar street lighting, has greatly improved mobility and stimulated economic activities in Abia North.
The Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, also showcased the Federal Housing Authority's Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Bende as a major intervention in addressing housing needs, while the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, disclosed that the State had completed a 20-kilometre 33KV electricity line from Ihechiowa to Ebem, Ohafia, terminating at a newly installed 7.5MVA injection substation, with final installations underway to restore electricity to communities that have endured about eight years of darkness. He further revealed that discussions are at an advanced stage for Abia to acquire a controlling stake in the Abia franchise of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to accelerate stable power supply to areas outside the Geometric Power coverage.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma , recalled that the Joe Irukwu Way had suffered nearly two decades of neglect before Governor Otti's intervention and explained that the administration engaged three construction firms simultaneously to ensure speedy delivery because of the road's strategic economic importance. He equally commended the cordial working relationship between President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Alex C. Otti , describing it as mutually beneficial and people-centred.
The entire inspection team, made up of senior journalists, editors, media influencers and Federal Government representatives, inspected several landmark projects, including the Omenuko Bridge, the 42-kilometre Ebem-Ohafia Road, the 30-kilometre Ozu-Abam-Ndiokereke-Amuvi Road, the Renewed Hope Housing Estates in Bende, the Prof. Nnenna Oti Central Bus Terminal, and the four-lane Dr. Uma Ukpai Road, a Federal Government project being executed by the Otti administration, leaving many members of the team visibly impressed by the scale of progress witnessed across the State.
