Your Excellency President Tinubu, Leaders of Opposition Parties, Independent Candidates, and Members of the Judiciary, 240 million Nigerians are writing to convey a clear and unified sentiment expressed by millions of Nigerians regarding the recent recommendations attributed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), specifically the proposal to extend VAT to fuel products and impose excise duties on telecommunications services.

240 million Nigerians are already carrying a heavy economic burden. Any additional VAT or excise duty on telecommunications—which is now an essential service for work, education, commerce, and daily life—would further strain households and businesses across the country. The overwhelming position among citizens is that such measures are unacceptable.

Furthermore, Nigerians are deeply concerned about the recurring pattern of IMF policy prescriptions that have historically contributed to economic hardship without delivering sustainable development. 240 million Nigerians demand it is time for Nigeria to chart a path of economic independence that does not rely on IMF loans or externally imposed fiscal conditions.

The message from 240 million Nigerians is direct Nigerians do not support any VAT on telecommunications, and they reject IMF involvement that imposes additional burdens on the population. Citizens expect all political leaders—across parties and institutions—to defend the economic well-being of Nigerians and ensure that no such policies are adopted.

This letter reflects the collective voice of 240 million Nigerians who demand policies that prioritize national interest, economic dignity, and long-term stability.
