A Letter to My Fellow Nigerians: A Mirror on the Wall
To the sons and daughters of the soil,
It is an old and painful truth that the blind cannot lead the blind without both finding the ditch. Yet, we walk this path with pride. I look back and remember the collective roar of "Say Baba!"—a chant that echoed across the land like sheep following a shepherd straight into a thorny bush. We ran wild on emotion, abandoning our collective senses at the altar of hype.
Where was this fierce courage during the reign of the late General?
When silence was golden because speech meant steel.
When bandits were emboldened, fed both at home and abroad, while we locked our lips.
When freedom fighters were caged like beasts, and our ancestral heritage was traded away for the grazing of cattle.
When the masquerade was dancing in the market square, everyone lost their voice. Now that the masquerade has left, suddenly everyone has a song to sing.
It is a pity we suffer from a short memory. We cast stones at the current administration, completely blind to the deep, rotten foundation they are trying to uproot. You do not cut a tree by trimming the leaves; you must dig out the root.
We look at the center, but we ignore our own backyards. Let us stop chasing shadows and ask the heavy questions:
Where is the water from our local wells? Have you demanded accountability for the allocations poured into your local constituencies?
Who watches the city gates? Have you questioned your state assemblies on the local laws meant to secure your borders?
Are the lambs safe in the fold? Have you asked school administrative boards what walls they are building to protect our children in their classrooms?
Why do middlemen reap where they did not sow? Have you asked why unions control the narrative from the farm to the market, swallowing the sweat of the hardworking farmer?
We demand a harvest without planting a seed,
Our sense of country is clouded by greed.
We point one finger at the crown on high,
While four fingers point back to tell us a lie.
The vulture does not hover unless there is a carcass. Before we condemn the nation, we must first look into the mirror. Let us look within our hearts and ask: Who are we truly, and what brick have we laid to build the house we want to live in?

Sam to Nigeria🙏🏽
