NNEKA'S DIARY XVII

Three weeks before Kunle's trip to Dubai, something unexpected happened.

I got a call from Mrs. Chucks.

"Nneka, there's a women's conference next month, and I'd like you to be one of the speakers."

I nearly dropped my phone. "Me? Mrs. Chucks, I've never spoken in public before. What will I even say?"

She laughed. "You'll speak on what you know best — healing after disappointment. Moving forward when life doesn't go as planned. You have a story, Nneka. And your story will help someone."

I wanted to argue, but something in her voice told me this wasn't a request.

"Okay," I whispered. "I'll try."

"That's my girl. I'll send you the details."

After the call, I sat on my bed and stared at the ceiling. Healing after disappointment. Was I healed? I had spent years avoiding men because of Henry's betrayal. And now, here I was, letting Kunle in inch by inch.

Maybe Mrs. Chucks saw something I didn't.

I decided to start writing down my thoughts — not just about Kunle, but about everything. The pain from my past. The walls I had built. The fear of being hurt again.

Grace walked in while I was writing and peeked over my shoulder.

"Are you writing a book?" she asked.

"No, silly. Just... thinking out loud on paper."

"Same thing," she said, flopping onto my bed. "Sis, can I ask you something?"

"Go ahead."

"Are you scared?"

I put my pen down. "Of what?"

"Of falling for Kunle. Of getting hurt again. Of all of it."

I looked at my younger sister — the one who always seemed so sure of everything. But in her eyes, I saw something I hadn't noticed before. Worry.

"Yeah," I admitted. "I'm terrified."

"Good," she said, smiling. "That means you're paying attention. Fear isn't always bad, Nneka. Sometimes it just means you have something real to lose."

When did my baby sister get so wise?

Next episode drops by 6pm.

Mild Uchenna: This was deeper than a love story. Sometimes healing is not the absence of fear, it's choosing to move forward despite it. Grace's words were powerful: when something matters, a little fear is normal because you finally have something worth protecting
menari personal and family support: Beautiful read, as always. Fear can be good sometimes, when its pointing us to the faith we should embrace
AOJ: Henry was the wound. Will Kunle be the healing balm? The topic: "Healing After Disappointment," is likely to be Nneka's first exposè to her own heart, what she's been through and what she hopes for with Kunle. This is why we look forward to the conference. @brashub should not dissolve the real gist...
Comfort Yako Asala: Life's experiences happen for a reason and also learn a lesson or two. The heartbreak, disappointment, healing, success, failures, fears and challenges are all parts of what makes us come out stronger. Nneka's story about her relationship with Henry and Kunle in the long run will encourage someone g...
POULTRY AND FISHERY: Fear is not the enemy of healing; resistance to fear is. When you stop fighting the fear and get curious about it, it often softens and reveals the next step. Is a beautiful read and Nneka will definitely do well with her topic.
David Onyedikachi: Facing fear with honesty and support is one of the most powerful things humans do. You're not broken for feeling it. You're human. And humans heal. Grace wise oh 😮
