It appears the juju, the Alálè, and the ancestral forces are either asleep, on leave, or only effective against the easy-going, the defenseless, the gentle, and the vulnerable.
The irony is painfully palpable: a king said to command both earthly and spiritual authority — Ọkọ sọ, Ọkọ àjẹ — ends up at the mercy of men who fear neither throne nor shrine.
For generations, we have been told of mystical powers that can locate enemies, inflict curses, and protect kingdoms. Yet kidnappers seem to move freely, capturing even those supposedly under the highest spiritual protection.
Perhaps somebody should wake us up from this collective slumber. The gap between the mythology and the reality is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
