For International Albinism Awareness Day, Nigerian photographer and visual artist Aderopo Afolabi shared insights into his ongoing photography project, which presents women living with albinism through the lens of individuals with agency, presence and complex lived experiences. He collaborated with Mistyglamcompany, Nigeria’s first albinism advocacy project and the initiative’s lead implementer.

This project challenges stereotypes, celebrates beauty in diversity, and drives meaningful change in how society perceives and supports individuals with albinism.

These are the fearless voices stepping into the spotlight at the Albinism Advocacy Pageant. This is about showing the world that beauty is diverse, that representation matters, and that stereotypes were made to be broken

As I have consistently highlighted in my work, fashion is a ubiquitous cultural phenomenon that transcends social and cultural divisions. It exists as a form of identity and expression that should be accessible to all, irrespective of race or personal background. By its very nature, fashion is inclusive, as it reflects the shared human desire to communicate individuality, creativity, and a sense of belonging.
