We sent them to the finest universities. They returned with degrees, titles, and accents polished by foreign institutions. Then they proceeded to prove that education without conscience is merely a more sophisticated form of betrayal.

As PLO Lumumba often reminds us, Africa's tragedy is not the absence of knowledge but the absence of character. Our educated elite mastered economics yet impoverished nations, studied law yet weakened justice, learned governance yet perfected misrule.

The villages remain poor, the youth remain unemployed, the roads remain broken but the speeches are world-class.

Perhaps history's greatest irony is that Africa was not failed by the uneducated. It was failed by those who knew better.

And they still call themselves leaders.
