Band 3 And Band 4 NHS Roles May Not Qualify For Overseas Sponsorship After December 2026. Here Is What Healthcare Support Workers Need To Do Right Now.

This is the most urgent immigration alert for healthcare support workers and HCAs in 2026.

And almost nobody is talking about it clearly.

Here is what is confirmed:

The Immigration Salary List — which currently allows Band 3 and Band 4 healthcare support roles to be sponsored below the general skilled worker salary threshold — ends in December 2026.

From April 2026, the 2026/27 Agenda for Change pay award confirmed that Band 3 entry-level roles now just exceed the £25,000 Health and Care Visa minimum threshold.

But the proposed higher skills threshold — RQF Level 6, meaning degree level — which the government intends to implement across 2025 and 2026, would exclude Band 3 and Band 4 roles from the immigration system entirely.

This means:

If you are a healthcare support worker, HCA, or clinical support professional overseas and you are planning to use the Health and Care Visa route after December 2026 — your route may no longer exist in its current form.

If you are already in the UK on a Health and Care Visa in a Band 3 or Band 4 role — your renewal may be subject to new rules depending on when you apply.

If you are a care worker in the social care sector — your route already changed in April 2025 and the regional partnership recruitment obligation applies to your employer before they can sponsor you from overseas again.

There are transitional protections for workers already in the route before 22 July 2025.

But those protections expire.

The window between now and December 2026 matters. What you do in it determines whether you have UK options in 2027.

DM me "BAND3" and I will tell you specifically what this means for your grade, your visa timeline, and your next steps — before the window closes.

Post 3 drops at 11:00 AM — the specific answer framework for the NHS interview question that 90% of physiotherapists and AHPs get wrong at Band 6.
