Brahmagupta was an Indian mathematician and astronomer who lived from 598 to 668 CE and is widely regarded as one of the most influential mathematicians of the ancient world.

In his landmark work Brahmasphutasiddhanta, he made groundbreaking contributions to arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and astronomy.

Brahmagupta was among the first mathematicians to establish clear rules for performing calculations with zero and negative numbers, laying essential foundations for modern mathematics.

He also developed methods for solving quadratic equations, worked with irrational numbers, and introduced important formulas in geometry, including one for calculating the area of cyclic quadrilaterals.

His mathematical ideas spread from India to the Islamic world and later to Europe, profoundly shaping the development of mathematics across civilizations.
