The procedure was slightly different in the pre-match ceremony of the Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay match earlier.

Unlike the standard procedure where flags of other countries are placed on the field, the Saudi flag must remain raised.

This is because Saudi Arabia has strict official rules regarding its national flag.

The flag must not be touched or placed on the ground or in water because it bears the tawhid phrase, the sacred phrase in Islam. 🇸🇦
