After pushing the Nigerian government to adopt austerity measures that have sent inflation figures through the roof and drastically reduced the purchasing power of the average Nigerian, the IMF is now urging the government to increase telecommunications and fuel taxes. Is this even economic advice anymore, or hardship disguised as policy recommendations?

Ironically, this same organisation will likely be among the first to release reports on rising poverty and worsening living conditions in Nigeria in the near future. Why can't we have leaders who can think independently and craft economic roadmaps that will genuinely grow the country without continually inflicting undue hardship on the people?
