The Last Letter

David and Amara met when they were teenagers. They were best friends before they became lovers, and for years they dreamed of building a life together.

Life, however, had other plans. After graduation, David had to move far away for work. They promised to stay together despite the distance. Every day they called, shared their dreams, and counted the months until they could finally be together again.

One rainy evening, Amara received a letter from David. It was unusual because he normally sent messages.

The letter read:

“If you’re reading this, it means I couldn’t tell you this in person. Loving you has been the greatest gift of my life. You taught me that love isn’t measured by how long we’re together, but by how deeply we care for each other. No matter what happens, never stop smiling, never stop dreaming, and never doubt that you were loved completely.”

Confused and frightened, Amara tried calling him. There was no answer.

A few hours later, she learned that David had been involved in a serious accident on his way home. He had written the letter days earlier after learning about a medical condition he had kept secret because he didn’t want her to spend her life worrying about him.

Heartbroken, Amara cried for weeks. Yet she kept the letter close to her heart.

Years later, she would still read it whenever life became difficult. The pain never completely disappeared, but neither did the love. David was gone, but his words remained.

And in every achievement, every smile, and every dream she fulfilled, Amara felt his presence.

Sometimes the most powerful love stories are not the ones that last forever in time, but the ones that leave a mark on the heart forever. ❤️
