The simmering feud between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Adams Oshiomhole has intensified, with the former Edo governor alleging that Akpabio’s defence of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) is influenced by personal interests, including claims that his daughter secured employment at the company outside the normal recruitment process. Speaking on a podcast, Oshiomhole accused the Senate President of bypassing parliamentary procedures in handling Senate reactions to his remarks during an NNPC probe. He also defended calls for former NNPC GCEO Mele Kyari to appear before lawmakers, insisting legislative oversight must not be undermined. The senator further alleged that powerful interests have repeatedly frustrated investigations into NNPC affairs and claimed widespread dissatisfaction with Akpabio’s leadership style within the Senate.
