THE SCAR
Not every mark on a child’s body is discipline.
Some scars are pain that never truly heals.
Many African parents grew up believing that harsh beating is the only way to correct a child because it was done to them too.
But repeating pain does not make it right.
A child should not carry permanent scars just because they made a mistake.
Discipline is meant to teach, not destroy.
Some children grow up afraid of their own parents instead of feeling safe around them.
Others become silent, withdrawn, or aggressive because of constant violence at home.
Correction can happen without brutality.
A calm conversation, consequences, guidance, and love can still raise responsible children.
We must stop normalizing wounds in the name of “training.”
Healing begins when parents choose understanding over anger.
A disciplined child is not the one with scars on their skin,
but the one who has learned with love, wisdom, and care.
