OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 15 JUNE 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Ephesians 2:10
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

The word “workmanship” (Greek poiema) means a masterpiece, a work of art. You are God’s masterpiece—not created for selfish accumulation, but “unto good works.” God has already prepared specific good works for you to walk in. Wealth, therefore, is not an end in itself. It is fuel for the good works God designed you to do. When you use your resources for His purposes, you become what you were always meant to be.

BIBLE READING: 1 Timothy 6:17-19
“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”

Daddy Adeboye uses this text to show that wealth is a stewardship, not an ownership. What you give away is what you store up for eternity.

The Simplicity of True Enjoyment
1. Daddy Adeboye’s Breakfast Testimony
Daddy Adeboye shares a revealing personal experience:

“I once spent the night in the house of a wealthy man, and he invited me to stay for breakfast. When I got to the dining table, I was presented with a variety of dishes to choose from. There were so many options that I became overwhelmed and began to long for the simplicity of the meals in my house.”

This is a striking admission from a man who leads one of the largest church denominations in the world. With access to anything, he found himself longing for simplicity.

This is wisdom from a lifetime of experience. Joy is not found in complexity, excess, or ostentation. Joy is found in simple things: a peaceful meal, a quiet home, meaningful relationships, and a clear conscience before God.

2. When Wealth Complicates Instead of Simplifies
Daddy Adeboye warns:

“It is good to be wealthy; however, if people make their material possessions the focus of their lives to the extent that even regular things in their lives become complicated, it can lead to depression.”

“No matter how big your house is, you cannot sleep in all the rooms in it at the same time. No matter how rich you are, it will be foolish to wash your hands with oil instead of water because you will only be causing trouble for yourself.”

This is a powerful image. Oil is valuable. Water is common. Using oil to wash your hands is not a sign of wealth—it is a sign of foolishness. Wealth becomes destructive when it is used for what it was never intended. The purpose of oil is not hand-washing. The purpose of wealth is not self-glorification.

The Purpose of Wealth: Good Works, Not Flaunting
1. God’s Intent for Wealth
“God doesn’t give people wealth so they can flaunt it; He blesses people with wealth so they can be good stewards of His resources.”

“Any fellow who hoards what God has given him or her will not enjoy happiness because it is always more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).”

Acts 20:35 – “Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Notice: Jesus did not say it is more profitable to give than to receive (though it is). He said it is more blessed. The blessing is not just financial—it is joy, fulfillment, peace, and the smile of God. Hoarders are miserable because they were made to give. You cannot frustrate your design and expect happiness.

2. The Women of Luke 8:2-3
Daddy Adeboye points to a beautiful example:

“He wants them to be like the women in Luke 8:2-3 who used their resources to minister to Jesus and advance His earthly ministry.”
